Soft Molasses Cookes

These are absolutely my favorite cookie when eaten warm from the oven!

1 egg
1 C Crisco
1 C sugar
1 C. molasses
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 C. sour milk (or buttermilk)
5-7 C. flour (enough to make a very stiff dough)
Fine sugar for dusting
Preheat oven to 400.
Mix egg, crisco, sugar and molasses until well combined.  Add dry ingredients alternately with sour milk or buttermilk.  Roll out about 1/2" thick on a well floured surface.  Cut with a large cutter.  Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes EXACTLY.  DO NOT OVER BAKE!  (Overbaking will result in a dry cookie.)
These cookies are moist but will dry out  if not stored quickly in an airtight container while still warm.
Enjoy!
